Kasteel Arenberg, LeuvenArenberg Castle was built in 1515 and has been home to several dukes in the intervening years. Today it's the heart of the Catholic University of Leuven, serving as the main building of the Faculty of Engineering.

World Tour: Surfer’s Paradise, Australia

Surfers' Paradise on the Gold CoastSurfer's Paradise is about an hour south-east of Brisbane on the east cost of Australia. It's the most heavily developed of the several towns and cities along the Gold Coast. Few people surf in Surfer's Paradise, instead opting for quieter places with better waves a few kilometres south, such as Burleigh Heads.

World Tour: Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump, Alberta

Head Smashed In Buffalo JumpHead-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a small cliff in southern Alberta over which first nations peoples drove buffalo to more easily kill them. I had wanted to visited this site since I was a kid reading Dave Barry's Only Travel Guide You'll Ever Need, in which he reports calling the tourist centre and being greeted with 'Head-Smashed-In, may I help you?'. He claims this was probably the highlight of his entire life, and I can understand why.

World Tour: Pinery Provincial Park, Ontario

Red Pine on Wilderness TrailPinery Provincial Park is situated on Lake Huron in southern Ontario. It's not a large provincial park, but is nice for a day trip, with walks through old stands of pine and a nice beach (which was empty when we went on a cold day at the end of August).

Doubtful Sound, viewed from atop the Wilmot PassDoubful Sound is one of New Zealand's most scenic fiords. Most days it's shrouded in clouds but our cruise was on a rare sunny day with a clear view all the way to the Tasman Sea on the Pacific Ocean.

World Tour: Whitsunday Islands, Australia

Looking across to Whitsunday IslandThe Whitsunday Islands are located at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. The name's a misnomer: apparently the islands were found on Whit Monday, the day after Pentecost (Whit Sunday).
