World Tour: Palo Alto, California
Stanford University, founded in 1892, is the heart of Silicon Valley. Its Wikipedia page has many superlatives: large numbers of Nobel prize winners, Turing award winners, spin-off companies, and politicians. Among the more interesting sports facts: in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Stanford athletes won as many medals as 11th place country Japan.
