Pinery Provincial Park
Joe, Lana, and I at Lake Huron At the end of August, Lana and I, along with our friend Joe who was visiting us, went up to The Pinery Provincial Park at Grand Bend on Lake Huron. We hiked around a few trails and had a picnic at the beachfront. Although it was a bit cold and misty for part of the time, we went swimming (well, Lana and I went swimming — Joe was too chicken to handle the cold). Pictures, including cold proof that we were in the water, are available in my gallery.
Tapering
Proof of 21.09km I have started to wind down my training for the half marathon. Apparently you’re supposed to “taper” in the last weeks remaining before the event — reduce the intensity and duration of your training in preparation for the big race. So Saturday was my last long run before the event, and boy was it a long one: 21.09km, the exact (up to 2 decimal digits) length of a half marathon (and I’ve even got proof). The last two kilometres were tough, especially since I was home at 19.5km and then had to head away from home again to get the last 1.5km: like in a horror movie where the hero is wandering down a dark corridor, the audience was shouting “don’t go that way!” But with that long run done and a couple of short runs this week, my cumulative distance for the year is now at 427.8km.
