Bouncy Balls

BraviaBravia Perhaps you’ve already seen this commercial on TV, but I don’t see many commercials so this was new to me. Sony filmed a commercial for a new line of TVs. The commercial is a bunch of bouncy balls bouncing down Filbert St. in San Francisco. And by a bunch of bouncy balls, I mean 250,000. And it’s all real, no computer graphics. If you haven’t seen it, there’s a whole website for the commercial.

What a scorcher!

Certainly it’s not news to anyone living in Ontario that we’re going through a pretty strong hot spell. Today’s forecast for Waterloo is 36, which may not be a record, but is certainly pretty high. But what will be a record, it seems, is Ontario’s electricity demand. It’s expected to peak today at 26,925 MW, substantially more than the previous record set last year at 26,160 MW. So do what you can to save electricity: I’ll have all my electronics at home turned off the whole day. Of course, I’ll be enjoying the air conditioning in my office at school. But that would be turned on whether I was there or not, so I don’t feel too guilty.

Update 1:36pm: Already at 26,712 MW and projected to reach 27,225. Wow! That’s enough electricity to power, um, Ontario!
