Elmira Maple Syrup Festival

Tapped maple treesTapped maple trees On April 1, I went to the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival, held in the town of Elmira, Ontario, which is not far from Waterloo. This wasn’t an April Fool’s Day joke; every year, the town of Elmira welcomes what must be tens of thousands of people to celebrate the maple syrup harvest. My housemates and I got up at the ungodly early hour of 6 am. We drove to Elmira, got on the back of a trailer to go into town, and proceeded to have pancakes and, what else, maple syrup for breakfast. Harper’s Nose

Solomon Buster Sitar and Stephen HarperSolomon Buster Sitar and Stephen Harper This photo (from the CBC) of Stephen Harper is probably on the cover of a few national newspapers this morning. Aside from the amusement of seeing Stephen Harper get his nose tweaked on every newstand in Canada, it has a personal note: the baby is one Solomon Buster Sitar, the nephew of my good friend here in Waterloo, Scott Sitar. So I’ve got a Harper Nose Tweak Number of 3.

Update 2006/04/25: This has been all over the newspapers, with lots of editorial cartoons as well.
