Back to Disneyland
Boy, another long time between entries. But the blog’s not dead yet, folks. Though I may not have any more readers…
Growth on a fallen redwood tree Laura came to visit me in California this past week since I had some time off for American Thanksgiving. We did lots of driving, probably more than 1,000 miles in 8 days, and saw lots of things that I haven’t had a chance to see in a long time and some things I hadn’t seen ever before. We spent some time around the San Francisco Bay area, visiting SF, Muir Woods (pictured at left), and Napa Valley. It was great to go back to Muir Woods, because I haven’t been there since I visited California with my parents probably 15 years ago.
In Hidden Valley, Joshua Tree National Park After a few days in the Bay area, we went down to Palm Springs and Los Angeles with two interns from Sun Labs. The lush city of Palm Springs is improbably located in the middle of a desert and probably one of the reasons that the Colorado River no longer reaches the ocean. We visited nearby Joshua Tree National Park (right).
With Laura and Mickey Mouse Laura and I visited Disneyland, another place that I haven’t been to in around 15 years. We went on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and one of the busiest days of the year for the park — it reached maximum capacity, which is probably around 80,000 people. But we still had a great time and got to see all the things we wanted to see after a solid 16-hour day in the park. It ended with a magical snowfall in the park, using bubbles, of course. We also visited Disney’s California Adventure (right), a new park that celebrates California in… California. Why visit the real thing when you can visit the theme park?
Now it’s back to work. The term is winding down and I’ll be heading back to Windsor soon, and then back to Waterloo in the new year.
